The H&T Foundation was started in 2006 when Neil, through his involvement in soup kitchens, realised that they served a great purpose, but lacked structure and sustainability. Often they would only serve one meal a day or even one a week and when they ran out of money the entire project grinded to a halt. It was never possible to build a meaningful relationship.
With a solid background in business he was inspired to implement certain principles in the Foundation’s strategy to solve this crisis and with a heart for children he realised that if you could reach that child at a young enough age you could change his/her destiny forever. He founded the H&T program within a community where children had poor examples and were underfed or suffered from malnutrition. Purposefully he selected and trained individuals from that same community to become mentors. The obvious success with the initial implementation led to the expansion of the program to other communities. H&T wants to change the cycle; however these children’s immediate need is not life skills, but food. The food packs used proved a radical solution to this problem.
